Sound is my strange attractor

I am interested in that moment when a place, a sound, the wind, or a resonance ceases to be a simple acoustic event and begins to suggest a presence, a memory, an image.

Field recordings are the starting point, never the destination.

Digital synthesis is the way I enter into a dialogue with those sounds. For this reason, I build simple instruments and sound processes using Pure Data—not in search of rich timbres or spectacular effects, but to establish a direct relationship with the very substance of sound.

Every synthesized sound carries the memory of the instrument that generated it. Every field recording carries the memory of the place where it was captured. Composition emerges from the meeting of these two forms of memory.

Each Flooba release is a page from an ongoing diary where landscape, time and imagination gradually merge into one another.

BIO

Flooba is the long-running ambient music project of Bologna-based composer and sound artist Adriano Sorbello.

The project emerged in the mid-2000s as an evolution of Sorbello's earlier electronic music experiences, combining ambient composition, field recording practices, drone aesthetics, and a deep fascination with environmental sound. His musical background ranges from classical piano studies to decades of engagement with experimental and electronic music cultures.

A formative period at Bologna's independent radio station Radio K Centrale during the late 1990s and early 2000s helped shape his listening approach, exposing him to a broad spectrum of underground electronic music and sound experimentation. Since then, Sorbello has developed a personal language rooted in attentive listening, where ordinary sounds, atmospheric phenomena, and subtle acoustic details become the foundations of immersive sonic environments.

Over the years, Flooba's work has been featured by independent radios, podcasts and curators dedicated to experimental and ambient music, and has appeared alongside internationally recognised artists within carefully curated listening contexts.. His compositions often inhabit the territory between ambient music, soundscape composition, and sonic storytelling, focusing on themes of memory, place, perception, and the passage of time.

A committed supporter of open culture and independent artistic networks, Sorbello is co-founder of the Italian netlabel JonicNoise, a platform dedicated to experimental, ambient, and electronic music.
